Ive been thinking alot lately about words. Why we speak and what power we have in those words. This is the conclusion I've come up with...
God created EVERYTHING with His words. He spoke, it happened. How can we possibly say that our words have no power? How can we possibly believe that what we speak out doesn't really matter? If you were to put someone in a room and tell them how awful they are, how ugly they are, how worthless they are, how they will never do anything etc, what do you think will happen? They are going to believe you, they are going to take that on, they are going to hate themselves. What do you think comes from someone who believes this stuff? DEATH. That's why there's theft. That's why there's murder. That's why there's sexual/physical/emtional abuse. If people don't know WHO they are (which isn't the worldly opinion. The creators opinion is the only one that matters), there will only be death.
Now, the flip side... You put someone in a room and tell them how beautiful they are, tell them how they're worth so much more than diamonds and rubies, tell them they're awesome, tell them you appreciate them, tell them just how special they are and how many great and incredible things they're capable of, what do you think will come from that? The answer is LIFE. Imagine a world where everyone encouraged everyone. Where people didn't gossip. Where people didn't slander other people. Where people realised what a human life was worth.
I actually believe that if that guy that murdered those people (hypothetical person here) really believed the TRUTH about Himself (what the creator believed), those people would still be alive and he would be living a fulfilled and happy life. What would have happened if you had of encouraged that person with their music instead of tell them to just give up? They could have become a music teacher and encouraged the talent in other peoples lives. What if you had of encouraged that guy who loved science in school rather than tell him how much of a loser he was? He could have come up with the cure to cancer. What if you had of told that person that they were beautiful, loved and special rather than ugly and hated? Maybe she wouldn't have committed suicide. I know these are very "out there" statements and I don't mean at all to be condemning. I am just as guilty as the next person. What I'm saying here is : Instead of pulling people down with our words, why don't we pull them up? How about we begin to change the world, one smile at a time. When you're at the grocery store next, tell the girl serving you that she has pretty hair. When you're at the doctor, tell him how much you appreciate his time. When you're at school, say hi to the person that you would never be caught dead talking to. Make a difference. You have no idea how many lives you could be saving by simply changing the focus of your speech.
